National Education Open House

On the 31st of March, 16 of our Primary 5 National Education (NE) representatives attended the South Zone's NE Open House at Bendemeer Secondary School. The theme of the event was "HOME - This is where I belong" and is closely in line with this year's NE focus: Home. It was an eye-opener for the boys as well as the teachers. Six of our boys manned the stations while the rest of them toured around, guided by the seniors. The stations were as follows:

Station 1: Discover - Memories of HOME
Station 2: Dream - My HOME in Harmony
Station 3: Design - Building My HOME
Station 4: Destiny - Singapore OUR HOME

According to our boys, they enjoyed themselves most at Station 1 where they played the traditional games that are fading out today. These games include Chapteh, Pick Up Sticks and Five Stones. At Station 2, the boys played a game of UNO Stacko with their group members, learning about the importance of maintaining stability and racial harmony in Singapore. At Station 3, they were given the opportunity to creatively craft their ideal HOME with the balloons. Then at Station 4, the boys were asked to envision Singapore in 2020.

Our boys had learnt a lot during the trip and have had good interaction with the other representatives from different schools. Most importantly, the delicately planned event would have made an impact to our boys, such that the NE message of "Singapore is our homeland: This is where we belong" would have created a deep impression upon them. At the end of the event, all the participants were also given goodie bags, in which the traditional game items were neatly gift-packed by the seniors.

Lastly, we would like to use this opportunity to thank Bendemeer Secondary School for all their efforts in taking care of our representatives and for planning such a wonderful event for us.
